AI Policy

TL;DR: I am the writer, AI is my assistant

As an SEO writer, my copy needs to meet Google’s Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T) standards. AI isn’t there yet.

As a creative, I enjoy using my human brain to come up with unique ideas and copy that AI simply can’t.

  1. I use AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Elicit to research topics and summarise documents.
  2. I use tools like Fathom and Otter.ai for meeting summaries and transcripts.
  3. I use large language model tools (like ChatGPT or Claude AI) as brainstorming buddies to help me come up with improvements, subject lines, phrases, comparisons, examples, contrary opinions, headline ideas, content gaps, etc.
  4. If I use the research generated by AI in work for clients, I check it against original sources.
  5. I do not use text generated by an LLM as my finished product.
  6. I use AI tools like Grammarly to check my spelling and grammar.
  7. As of February 2025, I do not pay for any AI tools.
  8. If I ask an LLM to generate text for me, I always ask it to cite sources.
  9. I use common sense and further research to verify the accuracy of any information I take from AI sources.

My promise to you

  1. I am mindful of biases in AI algorithms.
  2. I strive to use AI tools in ways that respect copyright laws and do not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others.
  3. I’ll always be willing to disclose how, where and for what purpose an AI model was used in the creation of a specific piece of work – and at which stage/s in my writing or planning process.
  4. I monitor AI-generated content for potentially false, misleading, or harmful information.
  5. I am compliant with protection of privacy legislation in South Africa, and apply those same protocols when using AI to gather or analyse data for content creation. I will always get a client’s permission before inputting any of their information into an AI tool.
  6. I am committed to staying informed about developments in AI technology and the implications for content creation. I will regularly update policies and practices to reflect advancements and ethical considerations.
  7. I encourage feedback from readers and stakeholders about the use of AI in content creation.

Any questions, comments, or AI tool suggestions? I’d love to hear from you!
